Camborne is roughly fifteen miles up the A30 from our yard, about half an hour on a normal morning, and it is ground our gangs are on regularly.
The town is built tight, and that decides the scaffold before anyone has priced anything. The terraces off Cross Street and the rows behind Trelowarren Street go from the front door straight to the pavement, with granite party walls either side and a narrow rear lane behind, where there is one at all. On a good number of Camborne houses there is no frontage to stand on. This is the town that built the beam engines that drained Cornwall's mines. The engineering has gone. The dense granite streets it was built around have not.
The job Camborne asks for most. A mid-terrace stack with no side access is bracketed off the roof or built from the rear rather than run all the way up from the street, which keeps the pavement clear.
Re-roofs, rendering, window replacement and gutter work on terraced, semi-detached and post-war stock. Where the base sits on block paving, a lawn or a shared path, the load is spread on sole boards and agreed with you first.
