Scaffolding in St Austell

St Austell is the furthest east we work, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend we are round the corner. What you get instead of a same-day promise is a properly surveyed job, a written price, and dates for putting it up and taking it down that we can actually hold.

Scaffolding in St Austell You Can Trust

St Austell is about 45 miles from our yard in Penzance. Realistically that is an hour and a quarter each way with a loaded wagon, up the A30 to Innis Downs and then down the A391 past the clay country into the town. It is the furthest east we go, and we plan work there rather than squeezing it in.

The stock changes three or four times inside a couple of miles, which is the interesting part. The town centre around Fore Street is mostly pedestrianised, so a frontage there is a servicing and walkway problem before it is a scaffolding one. Climb east into Mount Charles and it is Victorian and Edwardian terraces on a hill, tight frontages and levels that need working out. Out at Holmbush the housing is largely post-war and interwar, driveways and open ground, which is the most straightforward access in the whole area.

Then two places that behave nothing like the rest. Charlestown is a Georgian harbour, listed and in a conservation area, where what you tie into matters more than what you build. And up above the town the clay country sits high and open, so wind across bare ground drives the sheeting decision on any job at that height.

Common Scaffolding Jobs in St Austell

Work at this end of the county tends to arrive with more notice, which suits everybody. A re-roof on a terrace at Mount Charles booked around the roofer's start date. A straightforward two-lift job on a Holmbush semi that goes up in a day. A commercial frontage in the town centre where the walkway underneath is the real design constraint. And subcontract access on the older stock nearer the harbour.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover St Austell?+
Yes, and it is the furthest east we work, so it is worth being clear about what that means. St Austell jobs are planned in with a date agreed at quote stage rather than taken on as call-outs. If you need someone on site within the hour, we are not that firm for St Austell. If you want a properly built scaffold on a date you can plan the rest of your trades around, we are.
How much does scaffolding cost in St Austell?+
The building drives it, and the travel is part of it, which we would rather state than bury. A two-lift job on a Holmbush semi with a driveway to work from is a straightforward number. A town-centre frontage with a licence and a public walkway underneath, or a cottage near the harbour with older fabric to tie into, is a different job entirely. Jobs with a defined start and strike date price better than open-ended ones, because we can plan the run around them. Quotes are free and written.
Do I need a licence to put scaffolding on the pavement in St Austell?+
Any scaffold standing on the footway, the carriageway or a pedestrianised street needs a Cornwall Council licence. Around Fore Street the conditions usually turn on servicing and delivery times and the width of walkway that stays open. Out on the estates it is more often a straightforward highway licence. We apply as your contractor, and at this distance we settle the licence before we set a date rather than sending a wagon 45 miles to find we cannot build.
How quickly can you get to St Austell?+
An hour and a quarter each way, so a St Austell day carries two and a half hours of travel before anyone lifts a tube. We are not offering same-day cover out there and we will not claim it. What we will give you is a date we can keep and a call if anything threatens it.
Do you do temporary roofs and specialist scaffolding in St Austell?+
Yes. A temporary roof is a fully covered working deck built over the structure so the job carries on through the weather instead of stopping for it. Up towards the clay country, where the ground is high and open, that is often the difference between a job that finishes and one that drags. We also work as a subcontractor for conservation builders on historic buildings, including in and around Charlestown.
